Ron Arad in NYC

In addition to his exhibit at the MoMA, Arad will now also be honored at the Moroso headquarters in New York. He’s produced some iconic furniture over the years, as well as a number of incredibly fluid architectural pieces (I particularly like his Design Museum in Holon Israel). Check out more work on the Ron Arad Associates website.

An Art Service

I couldn’t find much info about the company, apparently a NYC based design and art direction shop. Lots of interesting work on their minimal site (big fan of how simple they kept it). Have a look here.

Deus Ex Machina

Incredible bike company from Australia. Their style is a throwback to 40′s custom bike culture, designing bare bones motorcycles as well as fixed gear bicycles. Wicked brand, huge fan of the hand-done feel. Have a look at their site here.

Liu Bolin – the invisible man

Chinese artist Liu Bolin has made an art of becoming the invisible man. He claims his photos make a statement about his place in society. He sees himself as an outsider whose artistic efforts are not always valued, especially in his native country (thanks to my artist/designer friend Paola in Mexico City for this link).

Junko Mizuno

“Known for her unique gothic kawaii style, Japanese artist Junko Mizuno combines cuteness, gore and eroticism within an oeuvre that includes comics, painting, drawings, animation and toys.” See her premiere Canadian solo exhibition at Narwhal Art Projects (June 18 – July 26, 2009).

Olafur Eliasson: Sculptor of light and space

Olafur Eliasson is one of the most interesting and influential visual artists of our time. He brings the idea of “interactivity” to a new level. He is more interested in “why” rather than the “what”. In this talk, he speaks quite eloquently about his work.

“Many of his best-known works explore architecture and the mechanics of perception, almost as if the fantastical imaginings of Buckminster Fuller were reinterpreted by a cognitive scientist.”
Michael Joseph Gross, New York magazine
