This is the opening film for the Shift Disturbers 2010 event. Shift Disturbers is a mash-up of visionary speakers from the worlds of advertising, art and design. Speakers include Stefan Sagmeister, Nick Law, Cindy Gallop and Stéphane Xiberras.

This is a story of one designer’s idol worship taken one step too far.

AmoebaCorp’s redesign for the Pop Shoppe website, which was unveiled in August, has won a Webby for its imaginative animation.

For those who’ve never heard  the Webby Awards, they’re comparable to the Oscars, but in the digital realm. The Pop Shoppe site, which celebrates the brand’s larger-than-life personality, was built around the concept of an alternate world that lives inside a Pop Shoppe bottle and features a bevy of highly inventive and colourful cartoon-based characters. Amoeba was pleased to collaborate with OneMethod Inc. Digital + Design, as well as sound design firm Tattoo Music + Sound and movie animation firm ON THE CHASE! Motion Design.

“We’re designers but a few of us are also illustrators and animators and all of us are fundamentally kids at heart. To be able to come into the office every day and have a serious discussion about who should win a staring contest between a Sasquatch and a Yeti is pretty much the definition of a dream project”; said Mikey Richardson, who along with the rest of the team at Amoeba Corp, were really pleased to hear about the win. Collaborating with fashion/celebrity photographer Richard Sibald and producer Courtney Boyd, 20 different scenarios were shot, each reflecting Wind’s underlying concept of ‘the power of conversation’. It’ll be revealed in the next month or so, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled.

I mean look at that concentration. Here it is:

1. It’s official, this fall Mikey will be a 4th year thesis instructor at OCAD in the illustration faculty.
2. Recently presented ‘Keeping Your Team Motivated’ at the RGD’s Headstart late last month.
3. Sitting on the advisory panel for Shift Disturbers 2010. Amoeba is also doing all the event collateral.
4. Scheduled to speak at RGD’s Lateral Thinkers event on April 9th.
5. Will be judging this year’s Cannes Young Lions competition.
6. Earlier this month he spoke at OCAD to design graduates about strategies for entering the workforce.
7. Just had a new baby boy! (congrats again)
