Beautiful, striking, shocking Heath Ledger-directed video for Modest Mouse’s “King Rat” premiered earlier this month, over 18 months after the Academy Award-winning actor passed away tragically at the age of 28. “King Rat” was co-directed and illustrated by Daniel Auber with lead animation by Norris Houk, animation by Jade Taglioli and produced by Sara Cline. Paper animations and photography have really blown up lately. Kelly’s definitely not the first to explore this area, but he’s still doing some really interesting work (particularly liking his more recent ‘Democracy’ and ‘The Seed’). Sita Sings the Blues weaves together Flash animation, original watercolor paintings and rotoscoping techniques in this colorful, modern-day take on an ancient Indian epic. This feature-length, computer-generated animated film was rendered entirely by a single animator - Nina Paley, working out of her home office.
